5 Reasons Why You Should NOT Drive Your Clients

By
Real Estate Technology with Zurple

This will always be one of those never ending debates. The real estate agents that think you SHOULD drive your clients around are just as plentiful as the agents that think you SHOULD NOT. For the record, Zurple does not have an official stance on this question. However, today we are going to look at a few reasons why you should not.

Feel free to disagree with us in the comments below! We love the respectful discourse we see on Active Rain and would love to hear your opinions.

Without further ado...

A Few Reasons to Consider Why You Should NOT Drive Your Clients

1. Safety

First and foremost, your safety should be a high priority. The NAR provides helpful safety tips to make sure you come home to your families at the end of the day. In a good rule of thumb to always be cautious when meeting somebody for the first time after connecting with them online.

2. Time Efficiency

This reason can actually also apply to agents that believe you SHOULD drive clients. Having a client meet you at a specific time and address can help you organize your day much easier. There is no need to drive across town for a scheduled showing down the street from you.

3. Liability

This is not one of the strongest reasons, but if some agents will argue if your insurance isn't set up for business, driving around clients is a big liability.

4. Give Them Space to Talk

Have you ever been to a store where you and your friend are the ONLY people in the store? It's awkward trying to whisper about buying an expensive item, and how you might or might not be able to afford it. Having clients drive in another car gives them the ability to talk open and candidly about the home they just saw.

5. Give Yourself Some Space

Maybe your car is a mess and covered in dog hair? Or maybe you want to use that time between houses to make a quick call. (Don't tell your clients that!)  Sometimes it can be nice to have some thinking time to yourself.

So what do you think? Are these good points, or absolutely ludicrous? Let us know!

Risk management best practice would be to minimize liability - no; let them drive themselves.
