Going Green in the Red Stick...Recycling Oppurtunities in Baton Rouge

Shannon Sims, The Exclusive Buyer's Agent in Baton Rouge, LaDid you know that Baton Rouge has one of the most innovative curbside recycling programs in the country?  It is true, we do!  If you are a resident or business in the East Baton Rouge parish,free weekly curbside recycling is available to you.  All you need to do is contact the City Parish and request a recycling cart.  You can visit the website and get more info here.

Another unique service offered in our area is RedStick FreeCycle.  Essentially RedStick Freecycle is community of Baton Rouge citizens who post items of all types that are given for free.  Their goal is to reduce waste by connecting people who would otherwise throw away unwanted items with others seeking those same items.  Pretty neat concept.

Shannon Sims, The Exclusive Buyer's Agent in Baton Rouge, LaIf you have an old computer or office machinery that you no longer you can contact The Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council and they will gladly take them off your hands.  The CACRC is a nonprofit designed to meet these challenge head on and reuse discarded computers for schools, nonprofits, low income families, the general public, while recycling the electronics that cannot be fixed.

 Composting is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to go green.  The Recycling Office of the City Parish is here to help you with that also!  Compost bins can be purchased at their semi-annual compost bin sale. The East Baton Rouge Parish Recycling Office also has designs for compost bins that you can build out of simple materials at home.  Visit the Yard Smart, Earth Wise page to find out how to build one or call  office at 389-5194 for a copy of the designs.

If you don't mind a short drive and would like free composite.  You can visit nearby Lafayette. Free compost is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon at the Dean Domingues Compost Facility, located at 400 Dugas Road. Machinery is available to load pickup trucks and trailers. Any vehicle with an enclosed back will require citizens to manually load, with a shovel, the desired quantity of compost into their vehicle themselves.  For more information check out this link.
