The Washougal River
Washougal River Road is a scenic sixteen and half mile drive from downtown Washougal to Dougan Falls in Skamania County. It winds and curves along the banks of the Washougal River, so it takes longer to travel than the miles alone suggest. We love showing and selling the waterfront homes located along the Washougal. By the way, the name comes from the Cascade Chinook tribe and means "rushing waters." We think it's perfect.
Washougal River Waterfalls
There are series of water falls along the 33 mile stretch of the Washougal River. From lowermost to uppermost, the named falls on the river include Salmon, Dougan, Nake, Reeder, Stebbins Creei, and Doc Drop. Dougan Falls is 30 feet high. There's a deep blue pool in front of the falls that is popular in the summer months with swimmers. On a warm day, it's tough to find a place to park! On this cool, winter day, we had to the place to ourselves.
( If you enlarge the screen, it's a lot more dramatic.)
