Does your blog signature comply with your state rules?

I have noticed that some ActiveRain bloggers have not used their blog settings to create an automatic blog signature to include their contact information for their readers. Some do not even include a business address that identifies their location. I recommend providing information that will facilitate contacts and referrals.

Please keep in mind that your state probably requires certain information to be included as part of their advertising rules. For example, in Maryland, the full name of the brokerage must be conspicuously included. If the brokerage is a franchise, the full name must be included. When we use an individual phone number or an email address, the phone number of the broker or the branch office manager must also be included.

Take time to check on the requirements in your state and include the information in your automatic blog signature. Include your license number when that is required.

Great reminder. I thought I had the automatic signature set only to find out after posting that it was not there.

Thanks

Good point, Roy! Per California law, I should have my license number next to my brokerage name. I will fix that as soon as I can figure out how to update my signature, LOL!

I'll join the chorus, and add email to the mix. I think every agent should include their location on their website, on their blog, and in their email signature - whether or not state laws require it.

The EHO icon is often missed, although I see that ActiveRain has added it to the footer so perhaps that would be enough in a pinch.

Dear Roy,

Good idea, not just for compliance, but also so people can find you.

Hi Roy

Great reminder to check on what's required, and to not ake assumptions. Our state just implemented some new changes in 2018 for what is required in advertising for agents, brokers, etc. It keep getting more complicated.

And even if not a requirement, letting others know where you are (city, state) and how to get in touch is kinda important.

Jeff

I see many blog signatures that do not include an office address. These members do limit referrals.

Good thoughts, and reminders. I don't use an office address because my office is miles from where I live and work. I've worked virtually for many years, and if clients see an address outside their market, they tend to question what you are up to speed on.  Maybe partial address?

I made changes to mine today, BEFORE seeing your post. Great minds think alike! But this is a very important message to all of us to be sure we are compliant.

Many of our ActiveRain members need to add some state required information to their automatic blog signatures.

Recycling Carts & Bins with Lidsrecycle

Don't let the winds of March blow your recycling materials all over your neighborhood. You don't want to be "that guy" when you get home! Residents living in single family homes and townhouses have two choices when it comes to containers for Gaithersburg's convenient single stream recycling program: 18 gallon bins with detachable lids or 65 gallon wheeled carts. Recyclable paper, plastic, glass, steel and aluminum materials can all go into one single container for collection on your regular recycling day. To order a replacement container or a lid, click here or call the Department of Public Works at 301-258-6370. Learn more about the impact of your recycling efforts in this week's Gaithersburg inDepth article.
