On 20 Feb 2007, the Ogden city council approved an ordinance requiring all Ogden homes have a carbon monoxide dectector by 1 Nov 2007.  The ordinance specifies that homeowners without a detector could be fined a $50 civil penalty, but would waive the penalty if a detector is installed within 30 days.  The ciy has approximately 875 carbon monoxide detectors that they plan to sell to the public for $8 each.  Proceeds from fines and detector sales, will be used to purchase more detectros for sale to the public.
