As previously mentioned in our Weltanschauung post – the inherent warmth and deep human connection pervasive throughout the real estate industry is something to be celebrated and revered on a habitual basis. A fitting excerpt from our own “About Us” states: “This is a people business; we value and celebrate the inherent humanity of real estate. We want the genuine side of real estate to radiate from our solutions.” In short, the industry is more than just transactions, paperwork, laws and financial exchanges. These are people’s lives. These are families. These are human beings on a journey. And just like your leads and clients, folks practicing in your industry are people deserving of dignity, too.

The community guidelines underscoring the importance of respect and disciplined professional conduct amongst members on Active Rain “for both their fellow professionals, and the consumers who access this platform” reiterates that this community transcends just “members.” Guests and prospective clients/leads can access parts of Active Rain, which means professionals should be just that – professional. Maintaining a level of decorum that is considerate and well-mannered is essential. Even in the face of added distance and/or a level of detachment from others online - act like you would at the office. In real life.

Unfortunately, this vital tenet of mutual respect isn’t always adhered to. Being devoid of nonverbal cues and body language, online interactions (more specifically, certain comments) are open to interpretation and can come off as snarky, inappropriate and/or, at times, downright cruel. However, the more engaged a member becomes at Active Rain – the sooner they will find who they are more comfortable with, who they can consider part of their “tribe”, and who to maybe steer clear of. And for the record - the kinder, more empathetic folks considerably outweigh the trouble makers around here.
