The Voice of San Diego Real Estate, A New 2nd Domain and Title Tag

By
Industry Observer with Retired

A special Thanks to Lenn Harley for suggesting that I re-title my personal blog site to better reflect my geographic location. She noticed that the TheRealEstateTextBook.com title tag did reflect my geographic location and was making my site more difficult to be recognised by the search engines for San Diego Real Estate. I purchased the new domain, The Voice of San Diego Real Estate and it is now included in the title tag for the Text Book site.

In the next few months my site will be getting a makeover and I will be adding a few new features. Thank You Lenn for your great suggestion and I think my SEO will be much enhanced.

Good call, for Lenn. Yea, the city name is so important. I can't tell you all the web sites I visit where there is no name of city on the page. If you live in a city that has the name in different states, like Brentwood, please put you state in too. There are many Brentwoods. Only one Ann Arbor anywhere, so I am lucky.

I agree too that it was a good move.  Good luck with the site makeover.

William.  Thanks for the mention.  I'm a publicity hound.

Remember, I'm no expert.

Glad to help.  Yep, when it comes to SEO, I am a purist.  I listen to only one voice, Google.  Then I put myself in the shoes of a consumer who wants to search for homes for sale in San Diego and say to myself, "Self, what am I searching for?"  "san diego real estate" of course.  "san diego homes for sale" is good too.  In my area, I practically own "search listings [location].  A little known fact about Google is that they employ artificial intelligence to search for terms based on your individual search history and synonyms can be employed.

Of course, there are a myriad of quality search terms that are important, but they can be in the content and text links, etc.  I believe that sticking to the basics is fundamental.  "real estate" is the "money phrase", IMO.  If one does a forensic analysis of area specific keywords, the right ones to use will evolve.

One advantage of being on the Internet for a number of years, is that we had an opportunity to watch Google through it's infancy and then grow into the mental giant that it is.  While "time in service" may lead to a degree of cantankerousness, it also leads to real experience.  Folks can read about SEO all day long, but the foundation to understand what they are reading is what's often missing.

Hurray!  The spellcheck is working.

William, this is a perfect example of what makes AR such a special place.  Where else would you get such support and willingness to give valuable advice?

I am surprised in some ways Kathy that the national press has not picked up more of the stories. We are both stunningly amazed at what takes place here on ActiveRain. Real estate and mortgage professionals from all parts of country would be beyond amazed of what is actually accomplished within this network. While other purport that it may not generate Google Juice and stay to the opinion side of blogging, I don't read often that others are helped so much there on those sites. Yes they may claim that their business is to get business but when you think about it, most of us that have been helped in so many ways are better prepared to deal with the increased exposure we get here on ActiveRain. We are learning the best of all possible ways to be better at our craft and yes, they said we didn't need to bother to learn all this stuff because others could do it better. Maybe so. But with our increased awareness and the tools to do it, we are all so much better off and the friendships are so invaluable, how could anyone think that our lives have not been enhanced.

We are the lucky ones indeed and we should all be ever so grateful for what becomes almost routine here, others reaching out to help us. They are better for doing it and we are certainly better off for the new knowledge and experience. A true win win. If we had to pay thousand of dollars to get all this, we might in fact hesitate but offered as a gift that it is and it is truly priceless.

Hi Susie, I guess this all demonstrates that we all need to better understand what drives so many consumers to the sites. When they are easily found. Anything that helps that is SEO. Always keeping an eye open to possibility and learning from the many talents here on ActiveRain gives us all a leg up in our pursuit to be a part of the new world of real estate. It is all evolving and the rules change but our advantage of being an integral part of it as a player helps to moderate our actions and expand our possible range in the market place. ActiveRain is the facilitator for just about anything we want to learn, understand and to become of a part of. We are so fortunate for the many knowledgeable people that come forth to give us this edge.

Hi Missy, Thank you for dropping by and sharing the wonderful and all important insight. Lenn doesn't even realize how seriously I took her advise and even more, how much I appreciated her actually discovering this. We all just assume so much when we hire professionals but they take the lead from us. Unfortunately, when you don't know what you need, you often fail to ask for it. It is that my site designers made an error but I sure did. Thankfully Lenn discovered it and I had no idea of course, except that I wasn't getting much from the site. I have to credit ActiveRain for me even having a new site. it was their that I found the talented Jim Cronin and the genius of his company.

Now I have learned that it is the little things that can and do make such a difference. Not that SEO and Meta and Title tags are little, they are huge but often incomplete because we didn't know what they should say and how they should be constructed. So often overlooked or undervalued. For others that are in pursuit of their own new sites, this is a good reminder to learn as much as you can before you start and they continually listen and earn more and more and adjust to the new knowledge and understanding.

Hi Karen, I suspect that lenn might have actually already considered it. She says she is no expert. Well, I would put my confidence in her any day of the week. But what is so cool is that she shares what she knows so willingly with others and that is what makes the difference in our lives as the recipients. How fortunate we are to have Lenn in our lives.

How right you are Diane. I am so totally grateful for our experience here on ActiveRain. In so many ways and at so many levels. It was here that we also discovered each other again. Now that is also remarkable and I  am so grateful, it is way beyond words Diane. I value you as a friend and associate always and I will never lose sight of you again. That is very special indeed, Diane.

Hello Lynda, Thank you. Selling San Diego does seem the right thing to do. What most don't know is that the city of San Diego is made up of 50 different communities and each is worthy of its own separate marketing report. Which is where I am heading next. I actively work in 5 or 6 of these communities and most all of them at least once in a while. But I am working on narrowing my focus for the specific markets I most often work in and them will do market reports ( like you and others do for each one). Now that my writing page on my site is wide enough for the report ( changes last week), and as soon as the template part gets finished being designed and activated, those reports will be regular month features.

Should be interesting to see how all this gets integrated together.

Hi Bryant. I didn't change the name of the site, nor does need to. But you can buy another domain that has your community name associated with it as Lenn suggested and link it back to the site. Cross pollination is what I think it is called. But it gives you ways of getting recognized by the search engines when the community name is being searched. With your personal status already having been recognized, the community also gets a boost being linked to you. Thank you so much Bryant for the wonderful compliment and with the help of all you really experienced in technology, I am beginning to get it.

Hi William, it's definitely an excellent choice of domain names. I don't know why so many people are afraid of using phrases for domains.

They're SEO friendly, keyword rich and just plain easier to find because these are the type of phrases people use in their searches. I'm sure you'll do well with it!

Hi Sharon, Thank you, that was very gracious. The one I will be changing to is much better SanDiegoRealEstateVoice.com . Google likes a geographic local as the first words of a domain or title tag. So, as I learn more on SEO, I getting there. Many Thanks for dropping by.
