Where did they go #1

Starting a new series of people who have vanished. Today I’m writing about James Derham who was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He worked for several different doctors. One in particular was Dr. Bob Love. He encouraged James to work as a nurse until he reached the age of 20.

He opened his medical practice in New Orleans around 1790 earning him an annual pay of more than $3,000.00. He met Dr. Benjamin Rush and Dr. Rush convinced him to move back to Philadelphia again where he became an expert in throat diseases. What you may not know about James Derham is that he was an African-American who disappeared in 1802. He simply vanished into thin air, never to be heard of again.

Until tomorrow keep a smile on your face and a penny in your pocket. Ready for number 2, you’ll need to wait until tomorrow

Hmm, we will never know where he went, but my guess is that he retired to a beach in the Bahamas or something, haha.

$3,000 in income back then was a huge amount of money... probably a good $100,000 or more in today's dollars.

I agree...today disappearing acts are not as common and harder to manage with technology raging throughout the world.

Interesting James Dray on this story.  Sometimes you have to wonder about people with lots of talent and they are gone and no one knows what happen to them.
