Setting goals is an important part of success.
But goals need to be reasonable.
Just setting a goal just for the sake of having a goal is not helpful.
Setting unrealistic goals are a recipe for failure.
If you want to fail set goals that not attainable.

I used to set monetary goals (for the sake of it and because so many encouraged me to do so), yet found I was never motivated to achieve them.

I do like the cartoon. The truth is that when you set goals you cannot come close to achieving it only shows either a lack of experience or that you are not taking the task seriously.
