Discover the enthralling village of Big Bend WI!

The village of Big Bend, Wisconsin was named for the river bend and has a total area of 3.15 square miles. It is located in southeastern Waukesha County bordered by the Fox River on the south and along I-43 on the north.

The village was first inhabited by families from Vermont in 1836. The area became known because of the enterprising ways of the Putnam brothers who settled near a “big bend” in the Fox River in anticipation of the Great Wisconsin Lands Sale of 1839.

The Putnam brothers were responsible for building the first sawmill in 1831, the first inn in 1842, and the first post office in 1846. The village was incorporated in 1928.

Big Bend is home to about 1300 residents and offers an active adult program, the Lions Club, and a public library. The average high temperatures here range from 27 in January to 83 in July.
