The Yearly Real Estate Olympics

By

Author: Patricia Feager 2/10/2018

In the mindset of the Olympians, “mindset and preparations start long before the actual competition.” But there is an old Chinese proverb: There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.”

If the power to succeed is to stay focused, then why aren't more people successful, and if success is achieved why doesn’t it last forever? Is there a myth about focus that many don’t know? There is an old book called “The Seven Story Mountain, by Thomas Merton. In it, the author wrote: “Success – the logic of worldly success rests on a fallacy: the strange error that our perfection depends on the thought and opinion and applause of other men.”

As the world stands by for the Olympics, many athletes try, but there is still only one gold metal winner in each category. Every athlete trains to get to the top of their game and their strength and courage is admirable; however, not everyone achieves success, that well-traveled plan to reach the summit and stand on the top of that mountain with the gold, silver, or bronze shining brightly around their necks.

In preparation of the selling season I am getting systems up and running. How I began started last October in Montana. I focused on the mountains in the distance under forest fires burning looking at dark clouds on the shores of glacier waters. Nothing lasts forever, I said to myself. It was then, I began to look back at past year's productivity and discovered I wasn’t perfect. Acknowledgment is the first step to creating a plan. Something I failed to do, was to get systems up and running for my benefit, not the franchise where I was previously attached. While it is true, the Franchise continues to explode with success, it didn’t pave the way to wealth for me.

What I learned is that it doesn’t matter how many years you have been in the business, if you haven’t achieved excellent or you can’t retire today on the wealth you achieved, then you still have a lot of work to do. I have my work cut out for me. That is why I am in training once more, writing better blog posts, working on my CRS and taking educational classes. I'm more focused on being better and staying focused on me, not what others are doing, which Broker is bigger, better, and boss because I am my own boss and I can't allow my future to burn up and disappear without trying to focus on my own personal best.

Good morning, Patricia Feager you're a champion...and I love this post.... you're an individual participant in the game of real estate and you do not rely on anyone other than you.... that franchise name is as good as the agents who work there....and a agent who is capable of wearing that gold medallion hanging from his/her neck is able to do that from any location.... training is never ending.... to be the champion that you are, you train all year... consistently participating and improving your techniques and methods of performance with every challenge and task....  you ARE a champion, my friend....

sorry for the ramble... mention athletics and competing and I'm on a roll that needs a concrete barracade to stop.... ugh

Wayne Martin - The hidden secret to success IS the systems you create and implementation must work for you. Sometimes all one needs is a helping hand not just access to somebody elses system. If the system you are using isn't helping you to achieve success, they  really are not working for your benefit. I learned that and it all came together for me last October.

Thanks for your comment. Enjoy your day!

William Feela - Just be you! Another valuable lesson I learned. The hidden driver used to success is focus. Excellence is the achievement worth consistently striving for and you must do it consistently. I'm in the saddle learning to trot gracefully keeping focused on my awareness. Glacier Mountains propelled my forward thinking by its urgent smoke signals - warnings, life is about survival.

May you have a wonderful day.

Barbara Todaro - Ramble on! I AM listening!! You are someone who isn't afraid to pass through a storm and dedicate your life to staying alive in business and maintaining your personal best physically, emotionally, and mentally. Plus, you guide others, not only family members like your daughter, you champion your TEAM, and motivate me here on ActiveRain.

Barbara, you could write a book. Heck! You could have your own T.V. show. In my eyes, you ARE a huge success and you did it all for you, by you, and inside you is that determination and pride. In business, we learn about the multitude of systems that dictate success but many individuals don't have a direct perception of how some models aren't designed for their benefit. On those mountains I did climb at Glacier National Park I felt more grounded the higher up I climbed without the aid of anything else accept my legs and the rest of my body, my eyes, ears, all my senses! While sweating it out in smoky winds I read the signs of seasonal change in 2018 and knew that was the moment I needed to prepare for what's next. Since then I have achieved the following:

  • Applied for CRS designation last November; application approved 1/18.
  • Contract Feud, 10/12/17, 1 credit hour - Dallas.
  • Professional Standards, 10/24/17, 6 credit hours - Sherman, TX
  • Surfing the Cloud, 12/7/17, 2 credit hours - Dallas
  • Generational Selling, 1/27/18, 2 credit hours - Round Rock, TX
  • Legal Update 1, 1/27/18, 4 credit hours - Round Rock, TX
  • Legal Update II, 1/29/18, 4 credit hours - Round Rock, TX
  • Success Strategies, 1/30/18, 4 credit hours - Round Rock, TX
  • TX Common Legal Issues, 1/3/18, 4 credit hours - Round Rock, TX

Also, I have BIG plans for 2018 that I don't want to reveal until it comes to fruition. In addition I have served on various committees and I'm currently at the TX Association of REALTORS Winter Meetings. Education is excellence in learning.

Barbara, the world needs people like you!

I think anyone still in this business needs to always be focused on education and learning.  The industry is in a constant state of change.  Trends change, houses change, buyers and sellers change, technology changes and we have to be always be willing to learn something new that will help us help our clients.  I think you will have a great year.

PS- we have to chat again soon.  I've felt like I've been "missing talking to a friend" since your call.

You are the boss of your business and your life. You are right "The hidden secret to success IS the systems you create and implementation must work for you." The industry is in a constant state of change and continued education and learning to keep up is crucial if we are going to survive. You are a survivor and you're going to have successful year!

I am confident you are already successful in your own right, but we need our systems in place to promote and market ourselves, not just to help the franchise or company. WE need to stand head and shoulders above, and the right systems will help to achieve that. I have been lax with systems, and this is the focus of my olympic challenge, too. Best of luck my friend.
