Do you love your job enough to KILL for it? If you are a Realtor dedicated to customer service you just may be asked to do so like I was several years ago.
One of my toughest listings was for a woman I'll call Sasha. Her husband had run off with her best friend 20 some years ago and left Sasha with the house and a acre or two of yard.
Sasha was absolutely clueless when it came to home maintenance (aside from the fact she kept it spotless). She was so clueless that she didn't use the basement because it smelled... I figured out that it was because the septic system was backing up. Sasha didn't know that you needed to have the septic system pumped out every once in a while so after 20 years I guess it was full.
It was a nice house but it was neglected for 20 some years.
As in my earlier post about Gus and Jane, Sasha was also on a very limited income and, in fact, the bank was starting foreclosure on her. I loaned her over $1,700. of my own funds to get the home is "sellable" condition (that is to meet the appraisers demands).
Also like Gus and Jane, Sasha had a son who wanted her to come live with him.
There were 2 times during this transaction that Sasha had cold feet and wanted to stop the sale but her son coached things on from afar and as much as she wanted to deny it I think she knew that it was move on with the sale or the bank would foreclose and she would have nothing. Just before it all came to an end her son had second thoughts as well. He and I had a real "Come to grips with the facts" meeting and we (he and Sasha reluctantly) moved on.
In less than a month after the closing he called me from his home and thanked me profusely for all I'd gone through and what I had done. I continue, 7 years later, to get a Christmas card from Sasha and her son thanking me for what I'd done.
