If you don't follow the sport of Figure Skating, you may not understand what happened the past few days in the sport.  So here is a rundown.

The IOC selects ten nations to participate in the Team Event based on prior results at the International Figure Skating Events of the past year.  Each nation selects athletes to perform in the event from their normal figure skating team.

This Olympics, the US has 3 Men, 3 Ladies, 3 Ice Dance Teams and 1 Pairs Team.

It was determined that US Champ, Nathan Chen would compete in the Short Program and Adam Rippon would skate the Free Skate for the Men.  US Champ Bradie Tindell would skate the Short Program and Mirai Nagasu the Free Skate for the Ladies.  US Champs Alexa and Chris Knierim, a married couple, would skate both programs as they are the lone Pairs Team for the US.  Ice Dancers Alex and Maia Shubutani, a brother/sister team, would skate both programs in Ice Dancing.

The US Team won the Bronze medal just like the 2014 Olympic Team!

Notable info:  Nathan Chen had a less that stellar skate but he did complete the first Quad Flip performed at the Olympics.  Mirai Nagasu completed the Triple Axel, which is the first completed at the Olympics by a US woman.

Both record breaking performances are a outstanding tribute to the hard work and efforts of both athletes.

The Individual Events start on Wednesday.  You can watch on NBC or online,  www.nbcolympics.com/live.  Online provides the entire events (all sports) without much commentating.

Here is the Team Event participants with their new Bronze medals.

Good morning Dee. I do love ice skating and follow it even though I think the technical stuff is becoming more and more important.
