We have had the opportunity to meet several Olympic gold medal winners in ice skating thanks to our friendship with their management team.  What stood out in talking to them is that they know without a doubt, that in order to give the performance of their lives, they have to be focused in the moment.

 

When skaters step on the ice, they are solely concentrating on their routine in that moment. If and when they bobble, it is because their focus slipped. This is known as mindfulness defined as having a 100% of one’s attention in experiencing the moment.

 

We have been avid students and have practiced mindfulness for a long time.  This practice has been the base of our success as a married couple, and business partners.  In our commercial real estate practice we did listening rather than listing presentations.  Our sellers, buyers, lessors and lessees always felt that we gave them complete attention and more importantly heard their needs and concerns.

 

Some of our friends marvel at our capacity to remember stories they have told us, or events from the past.  One of our friends refers to us as having “steel trap minds”. There is no mystery here. We just listened mindfully.  Practicing mindfulness has honed our listening skills, boosted our productivity, and increased our leisure time.

 

In working with our strategic branding clients, the same practice applies.  We listen to them, and the world around us disappears regardless of whatever distraction is nearby.  Because our clients are confident that we listen attentively we have found that they feel comfortable and able to express their needs and concerns more clearly to us. This maximizes our time together. 

 

Thus far in 2018, we have updated our website, tweaked our logo and updated all the collateral materials which include the videos on our site.  We are constantly refining our work-flow with our graphic designer as well as our web developer.  Our focus is to get a project done perfectly and at the same time make it easy for every one to achieve this.

 

We take great care of ourselves physically and mentally.  We meditate, take long walks, run, do yoga, play tennis, and ski.  We eat 90% organic, thanks to a bountiful Farmers Market, 6 days a week.  We also make sure to take time off, alone, with friends, travel, enjoy every minute of our life together and count our blessings daily.

I'm so glad that Kathy Streib featured this in her "Ah-ha" moments for the week. The AR gods were sleeping on this one for sure, they forgot to wave their magic want and produce a gold star! I have heard you use "listening presentations" before and have adapted this. Its always been a key to my success but I hadn't labeled it! LOL! But it has made me more aware than even before to focus 100% of my attention listening when meeting with people.

Stay healthy and be happy with what you do. A lot agents wanting to get into high end homes. Beautiful homes to look at. It is not so easy to be successful. With that said my first few transactions were 7 figures by accident.

Thank you for the lessons in this post, Ron and Alexandra. This is something I am working on but have some improvement to make. I find, generally, when I am really busy that it’s easier to be more mindful!
