Learn to Drop Dead Weight Before You Sink

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker 69190

Blythewood, SC Homes for Sale  If you stick around in this business long enough you will get to see and hear a lot. If you're new and you haven't gone through very much on your own just yet, hang in there, it's coming. If you want to know what's on the horizon, go find a seasoned agent in your office and ask them what's the craziest thing they've ever seen in a transaction and you'll be floored by some of the answers.

One of the toughest lessons to learn early on is to just let go and move on. Sometimes a buyer will feed you a line and then vanish without a trace. Even if you have done nothing wrong.

Blythewood, SC Homes for Sale  Sometimes sellers will go through a divorce and decide to save a little money on therapy by taking out their aggressions on you. Maybe another agent in a transaction is just a complete jerk to you. The fact is there are any number of things that can get to you, not the least of which the little bit of rejection you are likely face while trying to prospect your way to that next sale.

The fact of the matter is that if you just focus on all these negative things, it will keep weighing you down as long as you let it. But if you can learn to just let go, you will do yourself a world of good. I am not saying it's always easy, but it is always worth. Just keep moving forward as long as you can, that's the direction you want to go anyway.

I meet many people that are carrying baggage accumulated and are exhausted from it. If they only knew to trust in the now and deal with the hanging on stuff once and for all...life would become simple, fun and meaningful without effort.

Good morning JL Boney, III ,

Its a tough lesson to learn but a valuable one. Not letting go can be debilitating and will affect everything you do. Let go and move on..the only way to remain sane! Happy Valentines Day!

I think of my granddaughter singing, "Let it go, let it go."  ;) That's the way we need to be with negative folks - they aren't worth keeping around. D

JL, it's hard in those early hungry days to grasp what you say, but the truth is, if you want to be in this business in five years, you need to learn to drop the dead weight. It will make you sick, depressed and defeated. Take a line from "Frozen" and "Let it go!"

These are hard lessons to learn and while it's easier said than done, moving on and saying next is the best course of action.  Happy Valentine's to you!  I'm glad you were well loved at home by your wife and children.  Enjoy!

Every now and then my "detectors" don't sound the alarm on a prospective client.  They seem friendly enough, but over time you realize that it would have been best to practice catch and release.  I had one last year that I was basically gritting my teeth (and as an engineer it takes a LOT to get me to that point).  I was too close to the closing table to quit, but if that deal had flamed out, I was finished.  The number of showings invested to that point would have no longer mattered.  Bill

I think it was just this morning - the inspirational email I got said that there are people who don't deserve your forgiveness. They are truly rotten.

BUT - you deserve to give them forgiveness, because hanging on to the negative hurts only you.

So true. I enjoy observing people, and I've seen it happen over and over again.

You do have to figure out when you need to cut and run.  Mostly I've been fortunate enough not to have more cray cray than I can handle.

Liz and Bill - It can be tough sometimes and I still have a few slip past me as well.

Marte - That's a good way to look at it.

Tammy - I have had more than I wanted to handle, maybe not more than I could handle, but certainly more than I wanted to from time to time.
