Spring comes to Los Angeles just like everywhere else on March 20th...

If you have been hearing some discussions around the end of January this year, that Spring is arriving early in Los Angeles do not take it seriously. Keep in mind these are people trying to get attention or are not used to what Winter and Spring is like in Los Angeles. Having lived here for over 20+ years the only real issue I see is, that we are way below the average for rainfall than what we are accustomed to this time of year.

Just as an example in the past two weeks there has been a clear indication temperature wise, that winter is still here. I have been kidding around with people about the old saying “when Hell freezes over” interestingly we hit temperatures way to close to freezing at night. Keep in mind 39 degrees is not what our Mediterranean Climate is known for.

Here in Los Angeles aka LA we are used to having different temperatures, for example living near the beach as in El Segundo, Playa Del Rey, Marina Del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu temperatures seldom reach over 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This is thanks to the coastal weather such as overcast and fog in the morning which generally breaks up in the early to late afternoon.

We look at Downtown Los Angeles aka DTLA as a bit warmer, just as we look at the San Fernando Valley as a warmer area. Meaning that there is more the likelihood, that temperatures will go about 10-15 degrees warmer than in the coastal areas.

If you are wondering, no we do not get snowfall or freezing temperatures. When we do get rain, it could be quite impressive. I recall the first year we relocated from Boston, MA there was an El Nino condition and there was so much rain, that it felt like driving through a car wash to go from point A to point B. Unfortunately, the downside was not only flooding, but mudslides that were quite dangerous.

Now if you like the climate I described and are considering relocating to the Greater Los Angeles area please reach out to me directly and in the meantime enjoy my photos that clearly look spring has arrived in our front yard. Much to my chagrin, the green is mostly weeds and not the green grass that I was hoping for. Keep in mind I am not complaining it beats the harsh climate others have around the country.

I am truly grateful where I live and for those who do not know we do have four seasons just that they are milder and more temperate.

Endre, Orlando does have 4 seasons. Matter of fact, I lived on Waikiki - the island of Oahu for a few years. Likewise, the Hawaiian Islands have 4 seasons.  I lived in Chicagoland for years. I love Chicago, but not the weather.  The winter is very long and if you blink your eyes, you will miss Spring, Summer, and Fall. Today Monday, Orlando is projected to have a high 88 and a low of 68.  Great golfing weather.

Morning Endre.

Well Spring is not quite here yet, but I suspect it will arrive shortly.  I expect an early Spring season as the rains have stopped and today, sunny with a high of 61

Good morning Endre Barath, Jr. ,

Spring lifts every-ones spirits even if we get a sneak peek early! We've had so much rain (which is a good thing) and I'm ready for warmer temperatures and sun contrasting to blue sky!!

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. When I saw that jet stream finally move down the coast and spread east, I knew we were going to see some "winter" conditions. We have only had about 1 to 2 weeks of cooler temps this "winter".  In Sedona we got over 1 inch of snow on Friday. It's 21º right now but planned to be around 56º today. I think we are so fortunate to have this type of weather.

Hi Endre Barath, Jr., we had a rough winter this year, temps fell down to 20's, I lost over twenty bamboo trees,   many plants, and a few trees. I would love to live near the beaches in LA, I can get used to that coastal weather.

Hi Endre

Love the photos!! Yep, we are really low on our rain, and thankfully we had some yesterday and today, along with hail, and snow in the mountains! And it HAS been chilly - down in the high 30s and 40s at night a few times, and low 50s at best during the day. I have to wear a jacket! LOL
