When we introduce new buyers to Wisconsn we think it is important to do some "Show and Tell" and we don't mean just houses. There are lots of wonderful reasons to live in southeastern Wisconsin. Places to go and things to see...we always gift them with one of our calendars no matter what month it is because next year they will get another one and it tells ALLL about the lakefront and ethnic festivals that are part of what make Summer "happen" on the Lake Michigan lakefront. The gorgeous photography is suitable for framing and for the people who have moved away ....they still ask us to send them for that "Taste of Home" they always want to remember.
We show them parks,...sometimes for children...sometimes for dogs....and the list of restaurants stretches from the lakefront to Lake Country from casual to formal each with their own unique signature menus...and atmosphere.
The schools are important to many people and tours are arranged to insure that both parents and students are acquainted and comfortable with the curriculum and all the system has to offer. Whether there are children or not, people want to be in an area where there is a great school system and we have many of those....some with orchestras, outstanding academic and sports offerings and often a large reason why people choose southeastern Wisconsin as a place to call home.
Our four season climate does not allow for Farmers' Markets year tound....but when the weather warms...the markets bloom all over the area..many on Saturdays and some during the week. The fresh vegetables and flowers, arts and crafts, locally produced bakery, honey....always something new and new recipes dancing thru my head as we stroll the aisles and take in the sights, sounds and smells of this seasonal attraction.
We had one family who had a son age 3 at the time, who was fascinated by the stalks of broccoli and things he had never seen before at the grocery store. His parents decided to encourage his interest and Dad built a raised garden bed in their backyard and let their son choose the plants he would grow during the summer.
The garden did more than create a new hobby...it created responsibility for watering and weeding, pruning and picking ....and it wasn't even a techie "plug in" toy popular with children of all ages today !
Now, every spring (yes it IS coming !) we give Samuel a head start on his garden with soil, a variety of seeds and he can plant the whole starter pot right in the garden when the weather says "planting time." He has added another dimension to his learning process watching the tiny seeds become plants and we are thrilled to be a part of this "agri-lesson".
