Want to Know the Safest County in New Jersey?

You probably have a list of non-negotiables you use to choose a community to call home.  Proximity to things you love, a thriving neighborhood, and safety are usually on the list of essentials when choosing where to live. Well, if you live in Bergen County, you can now boast that you live in the safest county in the Garden State!

Alarms.org has ranked Bergen County as the safest county in New Jersey. They rated communities throughout the state and compared crime stats per capita. In the safest cities in the state, violent crimes happened to less than 1 person out of every 1,000 people. Property related crimes affected less than 5 people out of 1,000. Those are some odds that should make Bergen County residents proud of its number one spot. 

Specifically, according to the study, New Milford and River Vale (both in Bergen County) were ranked as the top two safest municipalities in all of New Jersey. River Vale Township was able to boast zero violent crimes in 2017. New Milford, almost double the size of River Vale, only saw two violent crimes happen in 2017. 

In addition to New Milford and River Vale, the list of safest cities in New Jersey also included these Bergen County communities- Hasbrouck Heights, Palisades Park, Wyckoff, Oakland, Glen Rock, Waldwick, Mahwah, River Edge, Dumont, Ridgefield, Tenafly, Westwood, Bergenfield, and Hillsdale. Bergen County is brimming with incredibly safe towns and has a good bit to be proud of.  

Both New Milford and River Vale saw less than 50 total property crimes happen over the past year. For communities containing 16,000 and 10,000 residents, these rates are unheard of compared to other communities throughout the country. Although New Jersey’s crime rates are much lower than the rest of the United States, Bergen County has the honor of knowing it is safer than the rest of the (already safe) state. 

For Bergen County residents, these statistics are not only a point of pride. This new information means a priceless sense of security for residents.
