Let’s face it, over the past decade or so condominiums have become increasingly popular. Wondering what all the hype is about? Let me explain.

1. Location, Location, Location

Condos are built on premium land whether they are in the heart of a city or on the water’s edge. Other properties in these areas are hard to come by or carry hefty price tags.

2. Security

When you live in a condo you become a member of that community. Having close neighbors allows your property to be watched over at all times. Many complexes also offer gated security, guards and intercom systems. All of these features deter thieves and vandals from your property. Not to mention being able to come and go as you please, and not having to worry about getting a house sitter if you’re going on vacation.

3. Low Maintenance

I do not want to disappoint anyone, but if you enjoy shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, or raking leaves, condo living is not for you. All landscaping, plumbing, and electrical problems are taken care of by the building staff. If you truly miss weeding gardens, you could always think about volunteering…

4. Affordability

Though condominiums have a wide price range, a lot can be found on the lower end of the spectrum. There is a large selection of affordable condos for people on a budget, or for those who are first time buyers.

5. Amenities

Condos also offer their residents with many amenities that houses are not equipped with or that you could not afford to pay for separately. Many condos boast fitness centers, pools, saunas, and tennis courts. If your condo can provide you with services that you would otherwise have to pay for, such as a gym membership, spa treatments, and tennis lessons, you are making the most out of your monthly payment.

Great blog Veronica. I find condo's appeal to more people in our generation and urbanites. But anyone not looking to do yard work that is the life style.

Some of the advantages of condos can also be achieved with subdivisions that have Home Owner Associations, but are on land that belongs to the homeowner.  Typically, "mow and snow" is included - lawn mowing and snow removal.  Trash removal and sewer service may be included in the monthly fees as well.

Veronica, My second home buyer's most definitely prefer condos, it gives them something they don't get at home (amenities) and eliminates what they do have at home (maintenance). Plus it makes sense to build bigger structures to house units and leave open land for common area enjoyment. Thanks for the blog.. Steve
