Friday Fun: A Wonderful Zinfandel For Your Weekend

We are late with our post today.  It is due to sleep deprivation and client requests that took precedence.  We were under mandatory evacuation orders! The authorities were worried that although the bottom half the creeks were clean, the top half could start rolling  down our way.  

 

We could not find a single hotel, so we took the risk and stayed put.  And both of us did not sleep well. The storm was milder than expected,  And the flood and debris basins in the hills worked just fine!  

 

We recently bought this Zinfandel, and it is in our opinion one of the best Zins we have tasted in a while.  It certainly deserved the 95 points some reviewers gave it!

 

Winemaker Notes

Co-fermented Zinfandel with a touch of Petite Sirah to add complexity and structure and then aged the wine in large oak casks so the flavors are well integrated but not overwhelmed by oak. This food-friendly Zinfandel’s fresh flavors of ripe blackberries, black cherries and a hint of black pepper on the long finish are the perfect match for just about any grilled meat with barbecue sauce, sausage pizza and lasagna.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I thought of you as I heard about the evacuation orders this morning. I am glad you guys are ok! I am not a Zin fan. As you know our tastes change I may give Zins a try again. Stay safe!

Yolanda Cordova-Gilbert This is classical Zin.  It is not a fruit bomb, nor is it hot as in high in alcohol content.  This is the way Zin should be made. A

I haven't heard of Grgich Winery before.  Napa Valley seems to give birth to new wineries with time.  However, when I googled it, I learned they had changed their name in 2006, so they've been there awhile.
