Monday March 12th Spring Break guide

Armand Bayou Nature Center

Armand Bayou Nature Center is located in Clear Lake City on the Armand Bayou . Visitors learns about plant and animal inhabitants, bird watching, hike on the Nature’s Center’s trails or view live animal displays of snakes, alligators, turtles, hawks, and bison. You can make reservations to see the beauty of Armand Bayou on the “Bayou Ranger”, an electronic pontoon boat, or on a guided canoe tour.

A visit to the Center’s Martyn Farm will take you back in time to late 1800’s farm life in Texas.

History

Armand Bayou Nature Center is the largest urban wilderness preserve in the United States. The preserve was founded in 1974 and is home of more than 370 specie of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Over 220 species of birds reside or rely on the center as a safe-resting place on their migratory journeys. The Nature Center lies on the largest migratory bird route in North America.

The center was named after Armand Yramategui, a Houston environmental advocate who died in 1970. Yramategui, concerned about the increasing urban growth around the bayou, worked to have the land remain a wilderness.

Armand Bayou Nature Center will be open Monday, March 12th, and Tuesday, March 13th  9-5pm. The last admission is at 4pm.
