I do not know who started this or when they first named March 17 , as ' National Submarine Day ' . I had read about it last year in the carrier Pigeon , a monthly free magazine that I receive. Check out www.theuptightsuburbanite.com. It is interesting to see that they have something for each day of the month of March . The United States Navy acquired the Holland VI, the Navy’s first modern commissioned submarine, on April 11, 1900. Each April 11th honors this day as people across the nation celebrate National Submarine Day.
