It's not the IRS

By

It seems that everyone is trying to get their hands on your stimulus check. Granted, it's YOUR MONEY. The government is simply giving you back part of your taxes. So it's not surprising that the scammers are trying to get in on the action. Today I received an officially looking email:

Over 130 million Americans will receive refunds as
part of President Bush program to jumpstart the economy.

Our records indicate that you are qualified to receive the
2008 Economic Stimulus Refund.

The fastest and easiest way to receive your refund is by
direct deposit to your checking/savings account.

Please click on the link and fill out the form and submit
before May 19th, 2008 to ensure that your refund will be
processed as soon as possible.

Submitting your form on May 19th, 2008 or later means that
your refund will be delayed due to the volume of requests we
anticipate for the Economic Stimulus Refund.

To access Economic Stimulus Refund, please click here.

The web address actually takes you here: http://smfarms. com/catalog/images/hewlett_packard/.refund.php

I'm sure it's another Nigerian site run out of the Netherlands. If you get a similar email, don't respond or visit the site. -Charles

Thanks for posting.  That really could look official to some.  I got three of those types of solicitations just today.

Simple FACT the IRS will NEVER email you. The IRS does everything via US mail.

What exactly did you mean by "it's probably another nigerian site run out of the netherlands"

Is it my understanding that you feel all scams of this nature come from the Netherlands?

Its a known fact that quite a lot of these scams originate there. They certainly don't have the patent on the them though. -Charles
