2018 Ventura St Patrick's Day Parade: Shamrocks & Good Luck
The 2018 Ventura St Patrick's Day Parade starts off right outside the San Buenaventura Mission. All entries in the parade march straight up Main St to North Ann St. Spectators are encouraged to come early so they can find a great vantage point along the parade route. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs so you can watch in comfort. This year's theme is "Ventura Strong". As such, organizers thought this would be the perfect opportunity for all Ventura area residents to thank the first responders to the Thomas Fire that devastated so much of our region last December. Instead of just one Grand Marshall heading the parade this year, several of the Thomas Fire first responders act as Grand Marshalls. So, make sure you clap extra hard as they pass by during the parade. Let's show them lots of love and gratitude for all they do for us on a daily basis.
St Patrick's Day Fun Facts
The first official St Patrick's Day parade took place in 1766 in New York City. However, Irish immigrants began celebrating the day in Boston as far back as 1737. Make sure you wear green on St Patrick's Day or you might receive a pinch (an Irish tradition). Official St Patrick's Day meal? Corned beef and cabbage, of course. Ireland considers the number "3" to be magical. Thus, the three-leafed shamrock is supposed to bring good luck.
