Looking for someplace to go in Putnam County? Let me recommend the Paws and Shop thrift shop run by the Putnam County Humane Society.
This shop is filled with a little of everything! You'll find a variety of new and used items. I am a book lover, so I love to browse through their book section. Today I dropped off a trunkload of books and managed to leave with only a few more. It was a good day.
You'll be greeted at the shop by the friendly volunteers. Among the "volunteers" are two cats, Freckles and Danny. Usually there are several cats up for adoption as well. Today there were not -- this is a GOOD thing, even though I missed seeing the kitties. The cats from this shop are also taken to PETsMART where they get even more exposure and given another chance to find a good home.
This is a great place to make donations if you are trying to de-clutter to get your house ready to sell. They will accept nearly anything as long as it is in good condition, with the exception of clothing. Cash donations to care for the animals are also gladly received. You may adopt a cat or provide a temporary foster home to a cat in need. You can feel good about purchases made here. All proceeds from the shop go to go to the spay/neuter clinic and to helping limited-income families pay medical costs for their pets. The Humane Society also helps lower the cost of spaying and neutering animals adopted from the Putnam Animal Relief Center to encourage adoptions. Finding a bargain and helping the animals at the same time, what could be better?
Another way to help is by joining the Putnam County Humane Society. Membership dues are as low as $15 for an annual single membership. You may contact them at 562-0300 for more information.
The shop is run by volunteers and has limited hours. They're open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to six and Saturdays from 10:00 to 4:00. The shop is located at 2806 Putnam Avenue in Hurricane. Look for the blue awning, they're hard to miss!
