Todd wrote this article to help house buyers and investors make sure they aren't getting a huge financial and environmental headache when they pick up that "deal" down the street.

"Sadly, we live in dangerous times. We not only have to be careful of shoddy plumbing jobs, leaky roofs and shifting foundations, but we must also check for dangerous and illegal uses of our potential homes. Don't be fooled into thinking that only houses in rougher, low-income areas harbour drug operations: Many marijuana Grow ops are located in middle to upper class suburbs." Read Full Article

5 Comments on How To Avoid Buying A Drug House

I have heard of mexican's buying homes especially in Arizona and digging extensive tunnels into the homes from mexico and setting up their grow ops there. True or not I do not know but I have heard it a couple times. Also it isn't just the marijuana growers you have to worry about... the biggest and worst hardest to properly fix one is meth. I know a guy who got a steal of a deal on buying a known, raided and seized meth lab home for $1 from the city.... What they didn't tell him was all the work that had to be done to bring it to code, the fines associated with it being seized and raided, etc. etc. etc. all in all he ended up putting well over $80,000 into a home that ended up being worth only $75,000. An old marijuana home as long as never seized you just have to worry about cleaning, and stoners knocking on the door trying to buy thinking "Smokey" still lives there lol.

Many homes in the Sacramento area were used as growing hot houses for marijuana in the past couple of years.  It does happen.

Chris - That is an unfortunate story for your investor. I guess he went in knowing it was a drug house so it is a little better than getting that surprise after the deal is closed. I agree with you about the meth labs they are serious trouble and the article touches on that. Thanks for the comment!

Robert - I think it happens much much more than people think and in neighbourhoods that are surprisingly nice. Thanks for the comment!

Jeff - Thanks for the comment. I will take a look at your blog. It seems that this is a huge problem that buyers and investors need to be aware of.
