We are always talking about ways to save energy, go green and leave the world a better place.  I was reading an article recently and some of our modern day items are really zapping our energy.

Today's televisions can be real energy hogs.  Televisions do not turn off when you hit the power button. Rather, they go into standby mode, silently consuming electricity and giving off heat.  This heat can also cause you to use more electricity to cool your house.  Cut off all power to the television by unplugging it. Consider purchasing a separate surge suppressor for your television set.  That way, you can cut power to your television with the flick of a switch.

You probably could do the same thing with your computer's when you go off to work!

There are really cool power strips that stop the "vampire load" as it's called. You can get them at some green websites on the net.

you are right. My tv has a fan that stays on for 5 min after I turn it off... nothing green about that.

Pam, That is a great tip.  I didn't even realize the tv was still draining energy. I do unplug my computer each time.
