Yeah thats right 72 Million!!! I'm sure a lot of people would do almost anything for this kind of money.

Well the NFL is throwing money around at their players like there is no tommorow. Even their rookies!!

Matt Ryan (QB), the 3rd pick overall this year for the Atlatanta Falcons. Ryan has not taken one snap and

he has a 6 year contract for 72 MILLION!!! 34,75 MILLION of that is guaranteed, even if he gets hurt and

never plays he gets 34 MILLION. That is just insane!!! I'm guessing your not a NFL quarterback.

So...What would you do for 72 MILLION??

NFL Fact: This is the richiest contract in NFL History for guaranteed money!!!

That contract was ridiculous. When JaMarcus Russell signed with the raiders last September it was also pretty far out. Proven veterans in the league are pissed off about this and its evident because more and more of them are holding out for longer guaranteed contracts. This is too much money for somebody who has yet to play a down in the NFL.

They're paying for potential. The saddest part, to me, is that few if any expect this guy to be a stud. Jamarcus might have the strongest arm in the league...least he has that going for him...Ryan had maybe the third strongest in the draft class....I see him as a servicable Trent Dilferesque QB for his career.

Andy, this is by far the biggest bone head deal in all of sports. And what stinks is, it is made by the Atlanta Falcons who still have many issues to answer. Ryan will not see a snap till mid season and at best he will be a middle of the road QB. For $72 million, I would give Vince McMahon a week to draw a crowd and on National TV kiss his @$$. Oh wait, that has already been done.

While that type of money is absurd for an untested (at least in the NFL) rookie, I am not opposed to the big salaries. These professional athletes actually damage their bodies while doing what they are supposed to do. They also have a limited time to make the majority of the money for their entire life. They have to live with chronic pain and medical issues for the rest of their lives. All that said, if I had the potential and could command such money for punishing my body for six years, I, like most would do it. IMHO, the contract shows a bit of desperation on the part of Atlanta.

I go both ways- yes, they're all way overpaid considering half the teachers in the country work at just above poverty level....but I wouldn't turn down 72 mil if offered to me.....so who's to blame? We'll still pay $80 a ticket to see them play....so it's our own darn fault.
