I’m so glad that Kathy Streib is hosting this March challenge Reaching Out...An ActiveRain Challenge phone call. I’ve wanted to give Jeff Dowler a call for some time. I was bummed when I heard he was coming to Dallas for the CRS Sellabration and I wasn’t able to go. What a great Active Rain group meet-up and it was so close!
I had an appointment Tuesday afternoon and thought, “I’m making time right now as I’m driving to dial the left coast up and see if Jeff is free to talk!” He was checking out my number when I called and saw I wasn’t a telemarketer…my name didn’t show up but he saw it was from Austin TX and accepted my call.
I’ve been a follower of Jeff for a long time..always enjoying his posts on Carlsbad and the SoCal lifestyle he depicts so adeptly (art, recreation, dining, beaches, shopping, hiking etc.).
I knew he lived in Boston and moved to North San Diego County and I had to ask him why? He told me it was 2 reasons:
- weather in Boston had done him in
- his daughter went to school in USC
It was a huge decision for Jeff and his wife after finishing his career in Human Resources to move across country, from the east coast to the west coast! He felt they bought their home at the peak of the market but of course that is all water over the dam..look at what their home is worth now!
Due to Jeff’s relocating across country he understands what families go through and the agony of the whole process when they relocate. The second guessing, are we doing the right thing? What does sunny CA really have to offer? What income will I really need to live there? His knowledge of the area is worth its weight in gold. He spends the time needed to make sure they understand what the area has to offer and a realistic outlook on housing prices. His all-important data helps the transferee if they are negotiating with an employer on salary and what it will really take to live in sunny California.
Jeff said some come to California looking for a change in their life style and others still want to preserve their lifestyle and are trying to see if California can provide them with them with the lifestyle they enjoy.
Jeff admits he feels he’s always chasing new business and wants to concentrate more on past clients. Since he really prefers to work with buyers a change to more listings could be established if he concentrates on re-establishing those relationships with all his buyers he’d have a ready-made list to secure listings!
We talked about the website “Next Door” which has sprung up all over the country. I’ve been on my neighborhood website and began sponsorship last November, with many reviews boosting me to the featured Realtor®. In January I secured a $600,000 listing in an adjoining community (the website fans out to adjacent communities) because they read all my reviews and wanted to work with me. Jeff is going to look into this avenue as a possibility for him to get more exposure.
I could have visited with Jeff for hours and hope definitely will get to meet in the future or just talk again. He writes wonderful posts and clearly loves his lifestyle and career in real estate. If you aren’t’ following him make sure you do! For those that do know Jeff you know why he is called the California Dude!
