It’s Hard for This Old Dog to Learn New Tricks

While I don’t consider myself to be too high maintenance, there are two little girl poutingthings that I need to work...my car and my laptop.

Thankfully, Larry can take care of both.

However...last night my laptop went bye-bye.

Actually, it’s still in existence but my hard drive decided to go on strike.

While I didn’t get the infamous blue screen of death, I have a feeling it is on life support.

That said, I do have my iPad as well as the 3 other Thinkpads we own.

But you know how it is when you know that when you open your browser certain things are going to be in a certain place.

And I’ve forgotten how to set up everything just the way I like it.  I know that I will eventually but in the meantime it’s a PITA. (pain in the behind)

Everything is continuously backed up, so I’m not concerned about that.

I just want it the way I want it.

I've switched to the cloud for most things. Sort of split between iCloud and Dropbox, and I also use two computers. I can say this, Kathy, I've discovered after setting up my laptop with all new software from scratch (I didn't migrate anything from my desktop), I have not missed one thing from my desktop. But if I did, I can use "go to my mac" to get it. So having one computer die is no longer the kiss of death.

But like you, I hate having to do it. So sorry your computer bit the dust.

Wayne Martin woof!!!   I'm usually able to figure things out but I don't like having to start over.

Hi Kat Palmiotti while I understand it's not the end of the world, I do like things to be where I'm used to seeing them. Glad you got your work email back.

I agree Sham Reddy I actually have several backups but still a pain.

Barbara Todaro LOL it's a "cool" 73 degrees here, but I guess it's warm enough for the beach. I have an external hard drive and thumb drives and Carbonite. That should do it! LOL

Matthew Klinowski, PA Thank you. I'd be standing in line for a new phone if something happened to mine!

I'm with Trudy Nick & Trudy Vandekar, 610-203-4543 I do love my gadgets and I'm the one who usually handles the updates here but I just like things where I expect them to be.

Brian England looks like you're prepared. I use Carbonite and all of my photos are also in the clouds but it's still a PITA.

Roy Kelley I have no idea what I'd do otherwise! Hope that you and Dolores enjoy your day.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel We usually are the ones to help out our friends with their computers. I read somewhere that Apple may have som e new products coming out soon.

Chris Ann Cleland that's way over my head!  Do you still have a desktop computer?

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents I do have most things in the cloud -iCloud, Google photos, Google drive, etc but just a PITA.  I have been thinking of a MAC but then I'd lose my in-house tech.

Yep.  Use it every day.  Prefer it way more than the laptop.

Kathy: With a Mac you don't need an in-house tech. And if you ever do need help, there is no waiting on the phone for support because few ever call Apple.

It is seriously a day I am truly dreading. I do not want to start anew with another laptop. Mine is getting up there in age and I know it's just a matter of time but this old dog is not going to be happy having to learn Windows 10. If only I could just keep this old friend forever!

I had to smile when you mentioned your car and your laptop, Kathy.  Those are precisely the two items that will rock my boat too.

Morning Kathy.

Hmm, now would be a great time to try a Mac. Love my machine, because you already have an iPad the switch would be easier

First of all, love the clip from When Harry met Sally - one of my all time fav movies. Endre Barath, Jr. you have me laughing with your comment.

My Mac products help keep my attitude and computer life in low maintenance mode. Take a bite of the Apple Kathy, come on, you can do it... :)
