Spring Loose Leaf Collections Underway in Gaithersburg, MD

The annual spring loose leaf collections are now underway for single family and townhouse owners in the City of Gaithersburg  and will take place through April 13, 2018, weather permitting. Collections are made weekly, however there may be a one to two-day delay during busy periods.

Place leaves at the street curb by 7 a.m. on your recycling day. Note that leaves placed in alleys or mews will not be collected. After the collection period ends, leaves can be placed in biodegradable brown paper bags and left curbside with other recyclables on your weekly collection day.

Please remove limbs, rocks or other heavy objects from leaf piles. Never drive across or park over a leaf pile and do not allow children to play in leaves along the street.

Do not rake leaves into gutters or streets. Rake them into grassy areas behind the curb line to allow water to flow into catch basins. This will help prevent the basins from clogging and will help prevent street flooding. Assistance moving leaves already in gutters to grassy areas would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning Roy.  I didn't know that there were any significant loose leaves in the spring.

Good morning Roy. Remember the days when you raked the leaves to the curb and burned them so many years ago. Enjoy your day!

Roy, I am a bit of a clean freak, and already have all my leaves picked up.  I like my yard to be clean all year long.

Hi Roy, being mindful of keeping the street drains clear of debris is all of the neighborhood's responsibility - if folks each do their part, it will help prevent problems.  Hurry Spring - let's arrive in earnest. :)

Roy,

Interesting as I am not aware of leaves falling during spring time.  How nice of your community to have a pick up service.  A

The loose leaves are those that fell during the winter months.

Roy, your post reminded me of a huge pile of leaves we once raked for city pickup - yes, in the street and 1 foot in front of the curb.  We live conveniently by a locked-campus high school. On the day of leaf pickup, a student parked his truck right on top of the pile and raced off to school.  I still recall my conversation with school authority in fear that the hot vehicle was going to start a huge fire in my front yard.  She read me the 'bill of rights' that parking in streets was also for students....  Hahaha...

I kept an eye on that pile of leaves for a little while.  Funny thing, I have a fire hydrant about  5  feet from the parked truck and the same afternoon a city police car dropped by and planted a $75.00 ticket on the truck's windshield.  I did feel a little sad for the teenager and also a little sad for me.  The city was unable to pick up my long and huge pile of leaves.  Hahaha  ~  Guess Karma came and got the teen and also me;  wondered if the same Karma also got the nasty school administrator.
