Donald James was born in Manhattan back in 1923. to William and Consuelo. He dropped out of the New York City’s DeWitt Clinton High School when he went to work in a theater as an usher. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp when he was just 16.
He saw action at Guadalcanal where he contracted blackwater fever, he spent more than a year at a Navy hospital in Wellington, New Zealand. After his recovery, he continued to serve as a drill instructor. He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in 2005.
What you may not know about Donald James Yarmy is that after his service to this Country he got into show business. Hmm, Donald James Yarmy still doesn’t ring a bell, how about his stage name of Don Adams? That’s right Mr. Get Smart was Donald James Yarmy, his career in the show business lasted for five decades.
