Sunset Photographs from Hawai'i Island

We have certainly no shortage of photographic opportunities on Hawai'i Island. You never know what you might see when you are alert and holding a camera. In future blogs, you will see more photos. I'm trying to group them into categories, as I see recurring themes in my photos. Like boats, including a submarine. Or birds. Let's not forget geckos and lizards.

So on Easter Sunday it seems appropriate to post religious looking sunsets. As I don't have any sunrises. That would entail getting dressed, not to mention getting up when it's still dark and driving up Mauna Loa.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD There are people who like to get trucked up to the top of a volcano and then bike down as the sun rises. As pretty as that sounds, there are some very uncomfortable aspects of this notion. #1) getting up at 3 AM. #2) It is COLD at high elevations. #3) Steep inclines. 4) Fast speeds. #5) Wild curves. 

You kids get offa my lawn.

Inna Ivchenko That is a problem with west orientation. Now, on the island of Lanai at Manele Bay, Four Seasons faces north, so you get both sunrises and sunsets.

Inna Ivchenko You can do that in Lanai but not on the west coast of Big Island, yes. It's pitch black and then the skies are blue, clouds cumulus, ocean blue, but no reflection. Every so often we get a pink sunrise, though.
