"Real estate team", this term hasn't been around for very long and I'm not necessarily talking about a group of real estate agents working together to sell a property or help you buy one. I'm talking about the group of individuals that help you get the home you want or sell on time and that includes escrow people, title officers, lenders, and any other parties involved in the real estate purchase. It literally takes a small army to effectively facilitate a transaction whether you're buying or selling.
Financial expert Dave Ramsey says, "when getting help with money, whether it's insurance, real estate or investments, you should always look for someone with a heart of a teacher, not the heart of a salesman."
Even though that's pretty much what we are, salespeople, we want to be informative as well. We don't want to just sell someone a property because that's what we do; we want to guide them to the best possible decision for themselves. That's a heart of a teacher, not a salesman. Everyone sells something, but in real estate, we're selling ourselves, and the more we teach and inform people, the less "salesman-y" we sound.
In our world where just about every answer is a Google search away, people still want that personal touch, knowing that they can come to you for the answers and not fill embarrassed by asking the question. I think an entire real estate team needs to have this personification; whether it's a lender, agent, or title and escrow officer. Nobody wants to feel embarrassed for asking a question nor made to feel like an idiot because they don't know the process.
I think agents need to focus on the individual rather than the transaction. The house is just a byproduct of the transaction even though it is the main focus of the purchase and sale agreement. Agents are selling themselves and buyers and sellers want to know that they are taking care of, that they are informed, and their priorities are number one.
So the bottom line is to look for a team that works for your good, not the industries good. That's when you'll find a great team that helps you accomplish your goals whether you're buying or selling real estate. - Originally posted on Linked in - Join me!
