I often get phone calls from sites like Zillow and Trulia from consumers looking for information on a specific home for sale. However, when I ask the question, "do you have an agent that you are working with" sometimes I get the answer, "yes...but no one can search for my home like I can".
I certainly can understand where that sentiment comes from, however, in all actuality, no one can search for your home for sale, like your agent can. Of course, though, no one can choose your home like you can!
Searching for a home on sites like Zillow or other sites like it can make it feel like you are "helping your agent" or ensuring that your agent doesn't miss something that you may really want to see. However, your agent has access to the most powerful search engine for homes for sale and that's the local Multiple Listing Service or MLS. This powerful tool allows your agent to get really detailed for the type of home you want, location and your specific loan type and gets those homes that are available for sale to your inbox.
Zillow is one of the most popular search engine sites for home buying and that's where people often times start their search. I do like Zillow a lot and I'm a Zillow Premiere Agent. However, Zillow is more like a Google for Real Estate and there can be a lot of misinformation on actual homes for sale. Many times those homes are either already under contract, sold a long time ago, are for rent, could be a for sale by owner or not for sale or rent at all.
Now, I'm not saying don't go to Zillow. It can be a lot of fun to look at all the different homes for sale. However, when you are ready to buy a home, call an agent to help you Search for the Right Home for you. If you find something that your agent may have missed, give them a call or text and they can let you know why that particular home didn't end up in your inbox.
