What's Going Up

Thursday, May 22, 2008

What: Domain II

Where: 27 acres south of the Domain shopping center at North MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1) and Braker Lane

Who: Simon Property Group Inc.

When: Groundbreaking in June; opening in November 2009

Details: The new phase of the Domain shopping center will include a 200,000-square-foot, three-story Dillard's; an 80,000-square-foot Dick's Sporting Goods and an eight-screen Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinema.

White Lodging will be Simon's partner in a 340-room Westin hotel that will break ground later this summer. The new phase will add 631,000 square feet of retail space, 75,000 square feet of office space and 411 apartments.

Kathleen Shields, Simon senior vice president of development, said demand for apartments in the first phase, anchored by Neiman Marcus and Macy's, has been strong. She said the new phase will have a different feel than the high-fashion first phase and be aimed at younger clients.

Kevin,

Austin has a lot of projects going on.  It was ranked by Forbes.com as #3 in Best Cities for Jobs in 2008.  Forbes also ranked Austin one of the fastest growing metros.  Entrepreneur.com ranked Austin as one of the best places to buy.  If you have any clients who are investors, you should definitely have them check Austin out.  My partner and I have dealt with several California investors who are trying out the Austin market now that the California market isn't so hot.  Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about Austin's market.

I don't know. Univ. of Texas beat Arizona State in the last bowl game. Can I move into enemy territory? Hummm.

My little brother goes to ASU, so I don't consider you guys enemies.  Texas people are among the friendliest people you will ever meet.
