If you're still looking for something fun to do today, don't forget about the sixth annual Charlotte African American Festival, which starts at 3:00pm this afternoon and continues until 9:00 pm. The Festival takes place at Spirit Square in Uptown Charlotte at 345 North College Street. It's free to attend!

 

 

 

The annual Charlotte African-American Festival is a celebration of the rich heritage and accomplishments of the African-American Community and features:

    • Musical performances
    • Art exhibits
    • Dancers
    • Drummers
    • Speakers
    • Literature
    • Food
    • Vendors
    • A journey on the Underground Railroad with Harriet tubman impersonator
    • Black history "Walk of Fame" with interpreters of historical figures

This would be a great event to take children to as well as I imagine many do not learn a lot of history about African Americans in school. That approach has been changing in our educational system, thank goodness.

 Sounds like a lot of fun! We went to the Underground Railroad Musuem in Cinncinatti last year wow it's almost been a year it was very interesting and yes we almost got locked in!

George Souto ~ hi George... you probably have to have some critical mass of African Americans in a community to make such a festival worthwhile. Charlotte is consistently ranked as one of the top US cities for professional and middle class African Americans.
