Knowledge is the Power for Your Freedom to a Worry Free Home!

No matter how much a contractor or a salesperson trys to persuade you that siding is perfect, there's just no such thing as the perfect siding. All of them have advantages and disadvantages, and they all deteriorat at some point. Just some faster than others.

It's up to your Home Inspector to determine if the deterioration is significant enough to note to you.

For example, minor hairline cracks just a few inches long are typically ignored or written up as cosmetic. If there are large cracks that well allow water to get behind the siding, these should be pointed out and written up in your report. Because this can lead to raptd decaying within the walls of the home.

Morning Dale - Siding is very important and you are correct about siding. Hair line or any crack can cause problems. Water penetration can be hidden until one day you suddenly see the damage. I am going to tear the siding off my pump house this weekend; however it was from termite and wood ant damage; I'm going to replace with Hardy. I didn't pay attention to what was happening after seeing the damage I decided to replace the whole thing. So much for being my own inspector......?
