With the expanding growth of Osceola county, there has been some major issues with over crowding in many of the schools. Especially middles schools around St. Cloud. In a recent blog, I posted about Osceola County ranking the 2nd fastest growing county in the state.
The construction for a new middle school broke in late March. Harmony Middles is being built on 33 acres on Arthur J. Gallagher Blvd next to harmony High School. The school will be a two story building and will feature a multipurpose track and baseball field.
"Our growth outperformed the percentage of growth in any other district in the state in terms of student enrollment. We actually still have with us our new friends from Puerto Rico, 2,000 of them that we hope will stay … That we will continue to serve,” said superintendent Dr. Debra Pace.
“But with that obviously comes the need for immediate capital improvements and more student stations, so we're very excited about this project,” Pace added.
"This new middle school will relieve some of the pressure in some of the areas that many of the Puerto Rican families move to,” said school board member Ricky Booth. “So certainly we are excited about being able to relieve some pressure at Narcoossee Middle, relieve some pressure at St. Cloud Middle school, and have a new school that can service up to 1,000 students once it's completed."
"A lot of work has been put forward, and it's a good plan, and we've worked hard to get to where we are today,” said John Bowden the Senior Vice President for Moss Associates. “And I feel we will be very successful and have a really nice school in summer (2019) when we open it up."
