What role did you play in this fiasco?

Everything was rolling along swimmingly until suddenly it was not.

Yep! It was all rainbows and buttercups and love and tenderness, but something happened.

Everyone involved knew there was a problem, but we were all too busy to deal with it.

Maybe if we leave it alone . . . if we ignore it . . . It’ll die or fade away.

We all know that’s not reality.

We go through the whole gambit of emotions and might even stoop to the level of playing the “blame game” because we do not want to take responsibility for what we consider to be other folk’s ignorance or malfeasance.

Who can we “throw under the bus” to distract everyone’s attention away from our culpability?

Even if we didn’t do wrong, things went wonky under our watch.

Perhaps our “role” was one of denial . . . we intentionally shielded ourselves from exposure to this ongoing egregious activity of others.

In doing so, we become complicit accomplices.

Want proof?

Tune in to the never-ending drama that unfolds each and every day in the Local, State, and National political spectra.

So . . . I hereby invite you FIRST to identify the issue . . . name it . . . and then IMMEDIATELY identify your role in how we got here . . . and then do something about it.

Take responsibility through appropriate action which begins with opening safe dialog.

Isn’t that really where most issues arrive at resolution . . . by way of seeking to understand and then to be understood (a la Stephen Covey)

Almost never is “Changing someone else’s opinion/mind” a useful pursuit.

We don’t have to agree with each other in order to be a great team.

This “tension” keeps us all on our toes . . . It sharpens our saws and creates vibrant relationships.

Diversity of thought . . .

Leads to more powerful synchronicity.

Engage!

I like the idea of recognizing we have a role. We had an unusual set of circumstances while on a vacation last year. Our good friends were involved in the same drama caused by another person on the trip. We were all caught off guard by the behavior of this person, but when we were able to get some distance, we all discussed our role in creating the "perfect storm" for this to happen. It was not only cathartic, but valuable lessons were learned by each of us. D
