We're on the verge of the first holiday weekend of the season here in Northern Michigan with the excitement building as it nears. All the communities are preparing for the big influx of visitors and the snow has also melted away, although we still have frost on recent mornings. The real estate markets are becoming active and the hope is that we're turning the corner.
But here's some general advise for everyone for the weekend:
Turn off the cell phone or, at the very least, mute it and retrieve messages later. Set aside some time with your family and friends where they're the center of attention. Breathe the fresh air and the refreshing breeze off the water. The lavendar bushes are coming in bloom and the smell fills the air. Leave the phone off when you walk through Walmart or down the streets lined with specialty shops in the many small villages so you can take in the people, the smiles, and the "hello's". Our need to stay in touch at all times has stolen away all the special little moments of our memories because they're missed. Converse with the store owner or the waitress at the restaurant. Too soon the snow will fall again and we'll have missed another year. Do something with your kids that they want to do. All the money in the world cannot replace those special moments.
And finally, buckle up and slow down, it'll still be here when you arrive and the car you risked you life to pass will be in your rearview mirror at the next light.
Have a great weekend to all!
