I have lived in Arizona for over 40 years and done plenty of running around in the hills.  I can honestly say that I had never run into a snake before this hike.  On this hike, I ran into 4 snakes and a very cool looking lizard.  Only one of the snakes was dangerous, but it was busy taking a nap and I certainly didn't want to wake it up, haha.  The picture is a little bit blurry because I used zoom to get the picture, rather than getting closer, haha.

That is very true Kevin J. May , if we can see them, they aren't a big problem.  If we don't see them and step on them or they feel threatened, that is when they are dangerous.

That snake in the lower right photo looks dangerous, Brian.  Is it a Rattler?

Yes, that was a rattler Myrl Jeffcoat and would indeed be dangerous.  This one was napping when we came upon it, so it was not dangerous on that day.

Brian,

We have seen them in California hikes, and we have rattlers here.  You have to be very mindful when hiking.  LOL A

Hi Brian England, you were lucky that dangerous one was napping while you were taking pictures. Snakes scare me, I don't look at them long enough to see what kind.

I am surprised that you don't see them regularly. You were smart not to disturb his nap.

I certainly would have been running if the snake wasn't napping Beth Atalay and I don't take long enough to figure out what kind of snake they are either, haha.

I too am surprised that was the first time I had seen them on the trails Debbie Reynolds , but if I never saw another one on the trails, that would be fine with me, haha.

Good morning James Dray , just stick with me and I promise to keep you safe!  You don't necessarily have to out run the snake, you just have to out run the person behind you, haha.

Hmm, sounds like Sharon Tara might have to work her magic and have you reacting to finding a snake on the trail, haha.  Just kidding of course, she went above and beyond with Barbara Todaro's pet alligator, haha.

I'm not a fan of snakes. I did touch one once at a zoo....I would not want to hold one though.

I hear Barbara Todaro trains with snakes at the gym....interesting workout I would imagine!
