Missy Caulk in Ann Arbor posted a link to an opinion piece written in the Wall Street Journal on May 6th.  Title:  The Housing Crisis Is Over.  WSJ may not agree (yet) with the article.  They buried it on page A23.

As interesting to me as the article is its author.  He's Cyril Moulle-Berteaux. a hedge fund manager (Traxis Partners, LP) from Greenwich, Connecticut.  The Huffington Post's Fundrace 2008 identifies political contributions from the zip code where Moulle-Berteaux lives in the amount of $1,845,273.  That's a lot more than was contributed from my zip code, 85713.  It makes me wonder whether Moulle-Berteaux has an inside scoop, or whether he's smoking dope.

Mike, I read today that the Phoenix market is set to appreciate 50% in the next five years.  50%!  Who ever knows who to believe.

Mike- The crisis definitly isn't over here in Flint, MI. I mow lawns for a local credit union and I have picked up 6 just this week, and I get them just after the realtor gets them.

Cyril is smoking dope.  We are not near the bottom.  We have a ways to go yet.  Yun (from NAR) and Cyril must have the same dealer.  I love the eternal optimist.

Sucker's rallies begin in a confidence game of giving really upbeat news to draw fools in.  Hedge funds have to draw in a billion times more.  Yeah you're right it's probably the dope!

Mike,

More and more I'm convinced of the 'local' phenomenon that is 'real estate'...Region to region, even within the same state differs greatly! I remember that even in the 'boom' years of 2003, 2004, etc. not every area 'boomed' the same!!! I thank God every day that our market isn't as bad as other areas of the Country...I also pray for those areas!!! Thanks,   Fran

Mike:  I'm with Fran the Man!  However, I do think that there is a conflict of interest between those lines by Cyril.

Mike, I believe that housing crisis cannot be over yet....the economy is still unstable with all of the rising prices on consumer necessities such as gasoline and groceries.   Thanks for the phone call the other day.  I did not know that if you take a post down, the commentors lose points.  I had deleted that post though instead of posting to draft...            :(

Sorry.

Our housing crises is not anywhere near over.  Increase in inventory, buyers scarce.  This too shall pass.

I have read lots of people who disagree with his assessment of the market, including the ones you mention. I do think we have hit bottom and are on our way up. But it will not be a quick recovery, tighten your belts and grit your teeth till 2008 is over and done with.

Mike,

My friend Fran the Man has the comment du jour.....I agree with him.

Crisis in one area may be turn-around in another.  Look for positive news in your market and spotlight it.  Confidence is our only way out.

I believe I've seen some signs of stablization in certain areas but it could just be a seasonal boost.  Hard to tell.

I'm with Fran on this, too... and finding that it can even get localized from one neighborhood to another at times.
