How many of you have heard of him?Does anyone know who he actually is?

Why do some people bury his statue upside down in their backyard when selling their homes?

Saint Joseph statues have been one of the most appreciated traditions and folklores among Catholics since short after the 1500th century, when nuns first began to bury Saint Joseph medals in the ground.

Today its a common way to try to make your sale go faster and smoother.

They even sell kits!

Many years ago,my mothers house was on the market exactly one year with very few showings, when she decided to bury this little statue in the ground and 7 days later she was under contract!

Fast forward to me and my beach house that I was trying to sell...with little luck at the time.My mother said, lets go bury St Joseph and see if he can help...sure enough within the week,I get a call from a friend who says....I have someone who really wants your house...sure enough...it went under contract immediately!

One of my investment properties,I was trying to sell and nothing was happening except for vandals visiting the property....well,I decided to give St Joseph a shot again and sure enough I got a cash offer for more than I was hoping for and close in 5 days!

Whether it is folklore or not..I believe!

Do you believe?

St Joseph is still a Saint in the Catholic Church- He was the step father of Jesus. He is the patron Saint of Family and Household needs.

The tradition of burying a St Joseph statue began hundreds of years ago in Europe by a group of Nuns who needed more land for their convent. They buried their St Joseph medals at that time.

The tradition continues today with many success stories. I have clients that have hired me and buried their "St Joseph- The Underground Real Estate Agent" Kits and have faith it works for them. Ok so you brought out the Catechist in me!

My birthday is St. Joseph's Day, March 19th.  (I won't say what year!).  So, I was selling my townhome by owner many years ago  ( I was not a realtor yet) and I thought, wow I should be really lucky if I bury him, I was born on his day!  I buried him, and it took a year to sell my townhome.

I guess he doesn't work for everyone!  LOL!

BLR, I have heard many who have found success with burying SJ as well. Not sure why, but hey if it works, why not.

I tell my clients who ask about the statue that even better is to list with an agent named Joseph.  I go on to tell them that 2 of my last closings have already been declared bonafide miracles by the Pope and I only need one more to be a saint myself!

I think it is great to believe in whatever works, and I may be trying this in the near future.

Joe, that's too funny!  :)  I think you should use the statue in your marketing materials, think of the possibilities!

I have to say that I have quite a few non-Christians who are willing to bury St. Joseph in their front yard (my ex-wife included) for a better home sale.  If you believe, how much more powerful will the effect be!

BLR Guy, One of my clients asked me for a St Joseph statue to bury so off I went to Ebay and sure enough there are sellers with kits. She buried him according to the directions. We could use some extra prayers for a sale!!!
