shiningFor the better part of May, I have taken a breather from Active Rain.  Yes, I have been busy at work, but I had also gotten AR fatigue.  I try to put so much into my postings and into my interactions with my fellow Rainers, that it was consuming a lot of my time. Early mornings and late nights were spent huddled over my computer.  My husband was having a hard time recognizing me when I wasn't bathed in the glow of the computer screen.

Plus, in all candor, I was getting discouraged because I wasn't getting the return on investment that other Rainers seemed to be getting in terms of leads.  Other folks, whose work I admired on AR, were waxing poetic about all the leads they were getting, and here I was with next to nothing to show for my hard work.  I felt like it was time to throw in the towel.

A funny thing happened, though. I missed Active Rain. I missed the knowledge that I gained from other members on the site. I missed the knowledge that I gained of my community by doing research for my posts. Most of all, I missed my Active Rain friends.

So, I've rededicated myself to this wonderful community.  I may not put quite so much time into it as I have in the past, but I will still be active. I hope that you will stop by and visit me from time-to-time and read my posts--both my personal ones, and the ones about my beloved North Georgia Mountains.

Yours in the Rain,

Kim

It is easy to become discouraged when it seems like others are having all this great success because of their posts. Let me tell you a secret, while I have had some success with Active Rain, it is only one part of my marketing plan. I still make a lot of calls, I still send out lots of e-mails and real cards, I still reach out to those I have met here and around town in an effort to grow my business. To me AR is a wonderful resource and tool, but it cannot (for me) be the only tool. I am very glad you are back! The sunflowers were a paler shade of yellow and the voices less melodic without you!

BTW, one of my favorite things about the Rain is learning about my area through research for localism posts! That would be Knoxville now! (We of course continue to lend in Georgia and all over the southeast)

05/22/2008 09:53 AM by Rich Dansereau Loan Officer Knoxville TN (Home America Mortgage)

Hey Kim~Glad you came back. I hear you loud and clear about the fatigue and burnout.

05/22/2008 10:03 AM by DOUG FRITCHIE-Silver Legacy Properties,Inc.

Matthew: Thank you for the words of support.  That is what I missed most about AR.

BLRGUY:  It's reassuring to know that I wasn't the only one who took a hiatus!  Welcome back.

Rich:  My dear AR friend!  You are so right, AR is only one component of a successful marketing plan, and like any other component, it has to be placed in the proper context and alloted the appropriate amount of time and energy.  Thank you so much, as always, for your kind words and support. I missed you...

Thanks to all for stopping by!

Welcome back to Active Rain Kim! I wish you the best of luck! never give up! Seeya!

Hi Kim - ActiveRain can be a double-edged sword sometimes. As much as it helps us make a lot of new and great connections, it can also disconnect us from those we already know. We all need a break once in awhile, and often come back with a lot more enthusiasm and creativity. Keep writing about those North Georgia Mountains, and I'm sure consumers will find you!

It can become a habit. I find time fly's by when your raining. I do have down time at the desk some times and enjoy the impute from the rain community.  There are some pretty cool people and the real estate world becomes a lot more personnel.

From one Kim to another,   There are times when I remember that  other things in life just might be as important as AR. But I still keep coming back for more. We all need a break once in a while.

05/30/2008 03:04 AM by Kim Harris-Broker/Owner/Sound Realty (Sound Realty)

Kim: So true...Like most hard-working agents, my constant struggle is to find balance. AR is no exception.  I love what I get from this site (even if its not leads!!), but I need to make sure I'm not getting out-of-whack with it.  I could have worse addictions!

Thanks for stopping by!!!!

05/30/2008 07:17 AM by Kim Southern - Blue Ridge Real Estate (Century 21 Professional Realty Group)

Kim. I am glad you are back, I also get discouraged because of the lack of leads. But I do alot of networking outside of AR. I do not put all my eggs in one basket.

I just enjoy reading what other people in my area have to say and try to keep myself visiable to them. You just never know when they will need me.

05/30/2008 10:25 AM by Barbara Cluck-Miksits - New Jersey Home Staging (BCM Home Staging LLC)

Kim:  I'm glad you are back.  I could never leave Active Rain but I do understand that there are times when it is very difficult to keep up.  Don't give up, the leads will come.  I think it's more a reflection of the activity in the market in general rather than Active Rain.  It takes a lot of dedication and time for sure to get things going.  I've had several great sales thanks to Active Rain.  Hang in there.

06/07/2008 08:11 AM by Donna Yates, Georgia Realtor North Georgia Blue Ridge Real Estate (Mountain Investments of North Georgia)

Donna: Thanks so much, my friend. You are 100% correct. I had lost sight of my own mantra, which is slow and steady wins the race.  Lord knows I'm slow, so I have to work at the steady!

Thanks for stopping by!!

06/07/2008 12:15 PM by Kim Southern - Blue Ridge Real Estate (Century 21 Professional Realty Group)

Kim: I'm glad you're back.  I was sort of a "late bloomer" on AR... I didn't see those tangible business results for about 6 months, then suddenly it all started happening just like those other members were writing about in their posts.  Tenacity is the key, I think.  It will happen for you!

06/16/2008 07:20 PM by Jan Evett Panama City Beach, FL (Ryan Realty Properties, Inc. )

Jan: You are an angel!  Thanks so much for the encouragement.  I'm getting back in the saddle...just riding a little slower.

Thanks so much for stopping by...I appreciate you!
