My hats off to Becky  Zimmerman, Interiors by Decorating Den for taking First Place at the Window Fashion Envision Design Competition held in Atlanta for 'Whole-Room Integration.

I don't know Becky and she does not know me but her approach to this window is brilliant. No swags, scarves, valances, rods, cornice boxes, etc. Such a simple concept yet I have never seen it before nor would I have ever thought of it.

This is a very easy treatment to use in home staging and very practical. By upholstering simple square boards with foam and a good upholstery fabric then one could use a number of fabrics for the attached panels. A little velcroe, a picture frame hook and viola!

Congratulations Becky!

She also shares her paint color selections: Benjamine Moore: Eucalyptus Leaf, Bryant Gold, Confederate Red, Plum Raisin. (The floor is Travertine)

How fun! And they match the pillows on the sofa! I like the colors, too. Thanks, Sheron!

Sheron ~ What a great idea!  Are the squares made of wood, do you know?

Kathy - I love them too and will make them. I would imagine they are made just like a cornice box only abbreviated. I will use plywood, 4 " foam, and a heavy upholstery fabric. I emailed Becky so she may respond and let me know.

Fernando - I wish I had come up with the idea but I am happy someone did.

Elaine - me too.

Mary Lou - I don't know about you but I have many totes filled with fabric samples I pulled for clients over the years...I loved them then and I love them now. I will be digging to find enough of one pattern to make two.

They are made just like regular cornices. Then the panels are installed inside with a tiny rod or velcro. Panels look best if they have two returns. Glad you liked them!

Those are great!  Now what does it mean, they look best with two returns?  Thanks

These are very special and I think we should call them the Becky Boxes or the Zimmermans ;-)

My graphic word is jujube...remember them?

Amy - 2 returns are a left and right return to the wall and not just attached to the back of the board and hanging down.

Sandra - will do!

Kym - you said it!

Kristina - they really are fresh!

Thank you all for stopping by.

Sheron, that is such an awesome idea for a window treatment.  It's perfect for staging!  Thanks so much for sharing that.

I love the wall colors.  Thanks for including them.

Another question, how many inches should the returns be?

6:15pm • #25
I usually make the returns about 3.5. It's easier to hang that way because you can fit your hand under there to install it.

Oh I love these, especially because I hate hanging rods and this is a nice top treatment for the little technique I have been using. They seem simple enough, thanks for sharing Sheron and I hope you are doing well, we have not spoken (via AR) in awhile.

Thanks Phyllis Pafumi

Phyllis - it has been way too long. Sure do miss you and others like Val and James and Judy and wow, I could go on and on. It is a really unique window treatment, I agree...doesn't happen too often.

Beautiful look.  I remember someone once made the analogy that glam window coverings were like the eyelashes on an eye...it completes the look beautifully and would be plain without.
