On April 24, 2018, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau reported nationwide new single family home sales rose 4.0% to an annual rate of 694,000 homes in March of 2018 from 667,000 homes in February of 2018, and gained 8.8% from in March of 2017 an annual rate of 638,000 homes. The median new home sold value was $337,200, while the average sales price was $369,900 in March of 2018, and there were estimated 301,000 new houses for sale and 5.2 months supplies of available inventory at the end of March of 2018.
Regionally, new homes sales in the Northeast fell 54.8% in March of 2018 from February of 2018, and dropped 52.5% from March of 2017. In the Midwest new homes sales declined 2.4% in March of 2018 from February of 2018, and decreased 2.4% from March of 2017. In the South new homes sales were higher 0.8% in March of 2018 from February of 2018, and up 10.4% from March of 2017. In the West new homes sales rose 23.3% in March of 2018 from February of 2018, and jumped 24.7% from March of 2017.
