You know Monday is Memorial Day, do you really know what Memorial Day is all about?

It a time to honor and remember the military men and women who gave their lives for our country. memorial day -arlington

According to Wikipedia " Memorial Day is a United States Federal Holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May (observed in 2008 on May 26). It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action."

In remembrance of these men and women I ask that you:

  • Display an American flag american flag

  • Take the time to remember and give thanks for these brave men and women

  • Offer a prayer of thanks for the freedom we enjoy as a result of the sacrifices made

  • Say a prayer for our military men and women and their families now serving their country

  • Thank any and all military member you come in contact with for their service, dedication and sacrifice.

Our freedom is something we must never take for granted and must always guard and protect, sadly our freedom comes with a price and sometimes that is the lives of some of our troops.

Thomas Jefferson said "The price of freedom is eternal viligence".

Working with military families relocating to and from Camp Lejeune Marine Base, New River Air Station and the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina has given me a new respect and appreciation for our military. I am thankful for the honor to serve and assist these deserving men and women.

Cynthia- It is amazing how so many do not really understand the significance of this Holiday....it isn't about sales at the mall, or an extra day off......but then again we don't teach Patriotism like we used to.  Since you work with the Miulitary you understand the importance of the meaning.....thanks.

Thank you for the post.  We all need to remember what the day is all about.

05/22/2008 04:36 PM by Amy Prouty (Home Staging)

Kathy,
No we don't teach patriotism like we once did and that's a sad fact.  How many people will stop and think this week-end about the men and women who gave their life for our freedom?  Not enough that is for sure.

Jim,
You're right, freedom is not free but it seems to me that many have forgotten that.

My thoughts and prayers will be with all of the families who over the years have lost a loved one on military duty. Thanks for sharing the history.

My thoughts and prayers will especially be with Lance Cpl Matthew A. Snyder 's family. This young man was the first causality from my husband's unit on their second tour to Iraq. Lance Cpl Snyder touched my life in his death.

Cynthia ~ Memorial Day is about remembering and giving thanks for all the freedoms we enjoy. So many Americans take the freedoms for granted - but we must remember those individuals who, without hesitation - put themselves in harm's way for all of us.

Cynthia- thank you so much for your post... this is one of those holidays I "celebrate" with mixed emotions. I love that the day exists but I try to approach it with a reverance for those who gave all for the freedoms we enjoy.

Hi Cynthia, many remember the day but they really have no clue of the real sacrifices people have made for them.  I was in a Recon unit in Vietnam and every day I think of people that gave everything for us.  This was a very nice tribute Cynthia.  Hope you had a great Holiday.

Hello Gita,
We must never forget what our military men and women sacrifice for us and the freedom we enjoy because of them.  Thank you.

Hi Tom,
True, it is and my guess is that is exactly what many people did on Monday.  What a sad thought!

Shannon,
Thank you and we are in agreement on this one.  Thanks for stopping by.

Very nice post, Cynthia.  I'm feeling so guilty - not much time invested lately in moderating.  Well, this post is very timely and brings us back to center

Thanks Margaret.

Regarding the moderating, do not feel guilty business must come first.  My time has been limited too.

Cynthia, what a wonderful reminder of what this day is all about. I think it was emphasized more this year than in others and for that I'm grateful. BTW...if you didn't get my birthday greeting on Facebook, I hope you had a wonderful birthday!

Not to worry, I welcome all visitors at any time.  Thank you and yes, freedom does come with a price.

Hello Linda,
I agree, it does seem that Memorial Day received more attention this year.  That is a good thing!

Thanks for the b'day wish, no I haven't been on Facebook or any of the social networks in awhile.  I just can't seem to find the time!
