Washingtonville NY is a village in the town of Blooming Grove. It is located in the northeast portion of Orange County, approximately an hour and a half to midtown Manhattan. It's close to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Stewart Airport in Newburgh. An interesting feature of Washingtonville is its place as home to America's oldest continually operating winery, Brotherhood Winery. Washingtonville was first settled in 1731 and was named in honor of George Washington. The Washingtonville website indicates George watered his horse under the big Elm Tree in the center of the village, and that action caused his name to be chosen for the area. George's namesake is home to schools, restaurants, parks, and more.
If you are interested in living in this area, homes range run the gamut from a 7,500 square foot estate on 28 acres of land, to condominiums of various sizes, and even some very affordable manufactured homes.
In fact, the manufactured home community of Brookside Acres is conveniently located within walking distance of the schools and it is close to public transportation. The monthly lot fee is $895, which will be lower if the homeowner applies for the New York State School Tax Relief Program (STAR). That fee covers costs for rubbish removal, water, sewer, maintenance of roads and property taxes. There are approximately 164 homes in the community, and at any time, several are for sale.
