All too often we are subjected to opinions of the former category, rather than the later. The above quote, by Sir Winston Churchill, points out the perspective we all need to adapt. If nothing else, the end of a bad situation should lead to the question "OK what can I learn from this?" Come on folks....look for that "silver lining"!

Great quote - but can anyone tell me when or in what context it was uttered?
Churchill spent 62 yeasrs in parliament winning 16 elections and losing 5 elections. But my favorite quote was when the Times' editor suggested to Churchill that he should gracefully exit politics before the 1945 election. His reply "I leave when the pub closes." And, yes, his party lost the election in 1945.

I'm with you about trying to find a learning opportunity in each success or failure. Even if the lesson is only "I shouldn't do that ever again!". There is value in every experience as long as you look for the lesson.
